About me

I’ve always been passionate about two things — learning and people — so I naturally gravitated toward teaching, where my focus and energy could always be on both. After earning a PhD in Linguistics, I was a college professor for over 30 years. In addition to linguistics, I also taught composition and ESL, where it seemed I always had my students writing to learn more about themselves. Hmm…

In addition to teaching, of course I did research (publish or perish in that world!), but much of my time was spent mentoring: I mentored junior faculty (through a Center for Teaching and Learning that I established and directed for 20 years) and students (through a mentoring program that I founded and coordinated for 10 years). It was the mentoring that felt the most meaningful to me and from which I learned the most.

I loved my job until, one day, I realized I needed a change. I felt that I had come to the end of teaching and knew it was time to retire. But I also knew that I wanted—in some way— to keep learning and working with people.

So, when I retired, I decided to become certified as a Jungian coach, as coaching seemed a natural extension of the work I’d done and I wanted to continue doing—helping people reach their goals. And I decided to take a Jungian approach because Jungian psychology has long been an interest, and I experienced, first-hand, how powerful Jungian coaching could be. I received certification from the Jungian Coaching School International, as well as from the International Coaching Federation (ICF), where I am an Associate Certified Coach (ACC). In addition, I continue to engage in ongoing professional development so I can further develop my coaching skills to meet the needs of my clients.

It’s your road, and yours alone. Others may walk it with you, but no one can walk it for you.

What I offer

Rumi is right.. no one can walk your road for you. But as your coach, I’d be honored to walk it with you for a bit!

My coaching sessions offer a confidential, supportive space where we can explore the unconscious to find insights that can speak to the challenges and opportunities that life presents. This exploration is done through images, dialogues, and archetypes— which Jung described as universal patterns and symbols that shape our personalities, behaviors, and experiences. These archetypes influence our inner world and our interactions, and working with them can be extremely useful and liberating.

Sessions are one-to-one and conducted on Zoom at a mutually convenient time. Individual 60-minutes sessions are offered for $110 per session; I also offer two packages: three 60-minute sessions for $315 or five 60-minute sessions for $500.

If you feel called to coaching, please contact me to ask questions or to schedule a free, 30-minute “chemistry” session where we can get to know each other a bit, and you can see if a coaching partnership with me feels right for you.*

*Please note: If you are retiring, I am not trained to help you navigate the financial changes that take place in the move from being “employed” to “retired.” There are expert advisors who can help with decisions about sources of income, health insurance, and estate planning, and I encourage you to reach out to the them if that is what you are looking for.
